MGC3030 Woodstar GestIC® Development Kit

The Microchip MGC3030 Woodstar Development Kit is a platform for evaluating and developing 3D gesture recognition systems. The kit operates as a complete reference design and features the MGC3030 3D gesture controller which incorporates Microchip’s GestIC® 3D gesture recognition technology.

The kit senses gestures like air wheels and flicks in the free space above the device through the detection of changes in a transmitted electrical field caused by interaction with the user’s hand. The spatial arrangement of the electrodes allows the MGC3030 controller to determine the centre of this electric field distortion, allowing the controller to interpret hand gestures.

Designing 3D gestures into applications is straightforward using the Aurea software development kit which provides direct access to the GestIC® Colibri gesture library hosted on the MGC3030 controller.
